11600 LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

PART 1: GENERAL COMMENTS

A. FUME HOODS

1. The location of the fume hood within the laboratory and the location and method of introducing supply air to the laboratory is crucial to the safe operation of the hood. The hood must be located in an area of limited traffic. Supply air must be introduced into the space opposite from the hood and with minimum velocity. Perforated duct air outlets are preferred. Standard diffusers are not acceptable.

2. Hoods shall be variable volume type.

3. See Section 15010 for additional information.

B. ANIMAL ROOMS

1. Obtain approval of the University Animal/Welfare Committee regarding all plans and specifications for animal rooms.

2. If the project includes housing for animals, contact Dr. Fred Quimby, Director of the Center Research Animal Resources, 253-3520 for animal room standards.
